Abstract

A tooth paste composition comprises a concentrated solution of sodium chloride admixed with precipitated hydrated silica, the silica comprising 10-40 per cent by weight of the composition. The silica may be produced by reaction between aqueous solutions of hydrochloric acid and sodium silicate, but should have a particle size of less than 1/100 of a millimetre. The paste, in which the concentration of the sodium chloride may be as great as 20 per cent by weight or more, may also contain glycerine; calcium carbonate or calcium triphosphate; petroleum jelly; paraffin; perfumes and colouring agents.
