Abstract

782,899. Hot-water boilers. CERNY, J. and SWATEK, M., [trading as SWATEK & CERNY]. May 21, 1954 [June 9, 1953], No. 15062/54. Class 64(1) In a system for space heating by hot water or steam combined with means for producing hot water for consumption, the boiler comprises heating elements 1 connected in a closed circuit by riser and downcomer pipes 8, 13 with a hot water or steam reservoir 12 containing a heat exchanger 31 in which water for consumption is heated, the reservoir 12 being in a hot gas stream downstream of the elements 1, and the hot water or steam being fed to the space heating installation directly from reservoir 12 and being returned to the bottom of the boiler. The return pipe 13 is forked at its upper end. Room-heating radiators are connected by a flow pipe 30 to an expansion vessel 28 connected by a riser pipe 27 to the reservoir 12, and are connected by a return pipe to a pipe 6 which is connected at both ends to the boiler sections 1. The heat exchanger 31 is a coiled pipe with its inlet and outlet at the same end of the reservoir as the return pipe 13 is. A thermostatic element 38 controlling the fuel supply to the burner 14 is at the same end. If the reservoir 12 is for water only, it has an empty central shell 10, so that the water space is annular. The boiler has an inner casing 24 and an outer casing 36, between which cooling air is drawn by flue gases passing from the outlet 25 to the outlet 37. The boiler sections are flat and thin-walled, and each have a number of vertical water passages separated by vertically elongated gas passages. Baffles 26 deflect the hot gases through these gas passages. Groups of boiler sections may be connected in parallel in the water cycle.
