Abstract
786,791. Linkwork. POWERS-SAMAS ACCOUNTING MACHINES, Ltd. April 6, 1956 [May 4, 1955], No. 12946/55. Class 80(3). In a mechanical servomechanism, particularly for record controlled statistical machines, the movement of a slidable bar 13 actuating a switch or other mechanism is determined by a small stationary electromagnet 8 controlling a bar 2 pivoted on a driving member 1 which is reciprocated, by means not shown, in the direction of-the arrows. The bar 2 is held by a spring 4 against a pin 18 and has a notch engaging the overturned end of the pivoted armature 6 of the electromagnet 8. In the position shown, the member 1 engages a spring 5 to hold the armature 6 closed. If the electromagnet is energized during movement of the member 1 to the left the armature remains closed and its upper end causes the moving bar 2 to be rocked to a position wherein its nose 17 engages and shifts the bar 13, which may be returned by a spring or other means. If, however, the electromagnet is de-energized during movement of the member 1, the bar 2 reciprocates idly, opening and closing the armature 6 without affecting the bar 13. A switch 12 in the electromagnet circuit may be controlled manually, mechanically or electrically. The member 1 may carry a plurality of bars 2 each controlled by a respective electromagnet 8 to operate a respective bar 13.
