Abstract
A solution adapted for parenteral administration to reduce the duration of vasoconstrictorpotentiated local anaesthesia comprises as essential ingredients an aminomethylbenzodioxan, adenosine and water. The aminomethylbenzodioxans specified are 2-substituted-1 : 4-benzodioxan derivatives of formula <FORM:0797237/VI/1> where -N=B, is a tertiary amine grouping, e.g. piperidino, morpholino or diethylamino, and are generally used in the form of the acid addition salts, e.g. hydrochloride. The piperidino compound, also known as "piperoxan," is preferred. The adenosine may be used in the form of the adenine-riboside, or as the mono- or triphosphate esters. The solutions should also be isotonic and sufficient sodium chloride is incorporated for that purpose, and various other compounds such as buffering agents are added to produce a pH of between 3.5 and 7. The preferred compositions according to the invention contain 0.01 to 0.5 per cent w./v. of piperoxan, 0.1 to 0.3 per cent w./v. of adenosine and enough sodium chloride to make the solution isotonic.
