Abstract
799,531. Machining by spark discharge. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd. Nov. 1, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955], No. 32440/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXV] In a spark machining apparatus, the electrode feed is effected by a split-field electric motor, one field of which is connected across the electrode gap and the other is connected in parallel with the charging resistor. A capacitor 16 is connected across the gap between the electrode 6 and the workpiece 1, and is charged over resistors 14, 15 from a D.C. source 5. Additional capacitors 16a, 16b may be optionally selected for rough machining. The electrode 6 is fed by the split-field motor 12 having its armature connected to the D.C. source 5, one field 20a in parallel with the charging resistors 14, 15, and the other field 20b across the gap. Variable resistors 21, 22a, 22b enable the sensitivity to be set for either direction of operation.
