Abstract

800,675. Elastic valves. SMIT, J. Oct. 17, 1955, No. 29523/55. Class 135. A valve comprises a hollow closure member or gate 15 integral with and projecting from the surface of a flexible diaphragm 17 clamped at its edges between body parts 10, 19, the gate coacting with a seating 14 formed in the part 10 whereby a passage for fluid of crescent-shaped cross-section is formed at the valve seating. The closure member is pressed against the seating by a separate foot 32 carried by a screwed stem 28 which has threaded engagement with a nut 22 secured to a hand wheel 25 and is prevented from moving axially by a circlip 23. A bridge piece 30 engaging recesses 31 in the body part 19 coacts with one or more flats 29 on the stem 28 to prevent rotation of the latter. Opening of the valve is effected by the resiliency of the diaphragm.
