Abstract
801,666. Filling bags. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Nov. 24, 1955 [June 3, 1955], No. 33687/55. Class 58. [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for receiving and holding open a bag and guiding into it an irregular shaped article comprises a plate 3 having a tongue 5, guide arms 8 hinged to brackets 13 mounted on the plate, springs 20, which pull on the upper ends of the arms 8 and urge their lower ends towards each other, arcuate springs 12 mounted on the brackets, guide arms 10 secured to the free ends of the springs 12 and shoots 23, e.g., made of stiff Holland fabric, each fastened at one edge to a guide arm 8 and provided along the other edge with a pocket, which receives a guide arm 10. A bag is fitted over the tongue 5 and guide arms 8 and 10 and when an article such as a fowl or joint of meat is thrust between and through the shoots it forces the lower ends of the guide arms 8 apart, thus expanding the bag and facilitating insertion of the article thereinto. The brackets 13 may be slidably adjustable towards and away from each other to accommodate bags of different width.
