Abstract
Cellulosic fabrics are treated in open width with a swelling agent, washed and dried in such a manner that the dry fabric is substantially free from creases, impregnated with a solution of a thermosetting acetone-formaldehyde resin precondensate containing an alkaline catalyst, and then dried and baked. Cotton, viscose rayon and mixed cotton-viscose rayon fabrics may be treated. The swelling agent may be an aqueous caustic soda solution, which may contain sodium chloride. The washing, i.e. removal of swelling agent, may be effected with water at 80 DEG C. The resin solution may contain sodium carbonate as catalyst and the subsequent drying may be effected on a stenter. The treated fabric may be calendered before baking at 140 DEG C. Specifications 554,988, 727,882 and 744,093 are referred to.
