Abstract
A method of thoroughly mixing the components of a polyurethane plastic comprises introducing a flowing mixture of the components into a first compartment of a mixing chamber and subsequently into a second compartment of the mixing chamber, the first compartment being of smaller cross-sectional area than the second, and discharging the mixture thus obtained through an orifice. A particularly suitable apparatus for carrying out the process is that described in Specification 826,623, [Groups III and XXIX]. The pressure at which the continuously streaming component is introduced may be within the range of 2 to 100 atmospheres. The component to be injected may be introduced at a pressure of 10 to 1000 atmospheres, with a frequency in the range of about 100 to 10,000 injections per minute. Examples describe the preparation of foamed polyurethanes using the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 of Specification 826,623, [Groups III and XXIX], from (1) a mixture of 2,4- and 2,6-toluylene diisocyanates as one component and as the second component a mixture of a polyester from adipic acid, glycol and trimethylolpropane, and an activator comprising water, emulsifying agents and an accelerator from adipic acid and N-diethylaminoethanol; (2) a mixture of 2,4- and 2,6-toluylene diisocyanates as one component and a mixture of polyester from adipic acid, phthalic acid and a triol, a polyester from adipic acid, a triol and butylene glycol, a filler water, an emulsifying agent and an accelerator. The inventions of Specifications 769,680 and 770,631 are disclaimed.ALSO:A method of thoroughly mixing the components of a polyurethane plastic comprises introducing a flowing mixture of the components into a first compartment of a mixing chamber and subsequently into a second compartment of the mixing chamber. the first compartment being of smaller cross-sectional area than the second, and discharging the mixture thus obtained through an orifice. A particularly suitable apparatus for carrying out the process is that described in Specification 826,623 [Groups XII and XXIX]. 1 of Specification 826,623 [Groups III and XXIX] from (1) a mixture of 2, 4- and 2, 6-toluylene diisocyanates as one component and as the second component a mixture of a polyester from adipic acid, glycol and trimethylol propane and an activator comprising water, emulsifying agents and an activator from adipic acid and N-diethylaminoethanol; (2) a mixture of 2, 4- and 2, 6- toluylene diisocyanates as one component and a mixture of a polyester from adipic acid, phthalic acid and a triol, a polyester from adipic acid, a triol and butylene glycol, a filler, water, an emulsifying agent and accelerator as the second component. The inventions of Specifications 769,680 and 770,631 [both in Group IV(a)] are disclaimed.
