Abstract
833,194. Cathode ray tubes. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Oct. 15, 1958 [Dec. 23, 1957], No. 32912/58. Class 39(1). An electron-permeable window is made by securing a foraminous matrix 30 in a mount 27, 31, cleaning and drying the mounted matrix, filling the openings in the matrix by a coating of sodium bentonite gel dispersed in distilled water, evaporating the water and baking the remainder of the coating to form a thin gas impermeable ceramic film over all the openings and thereafter sealing the matrix to the mount and the mount in the tube by suitable sealing compounds. An electron beam may be directed through such a window on to a moving sensitized medium. This medium, of conductive, or a conductive plate behind the medium, may be given a positive potential to attract electrons through the window, the matrix of which is preferably formed of a conductive material such as metal.
