Abstract

836,948. Filters. VOKES Ltd. Jan. 6, 1958, No. 523/58. Class 46. An inside-to-out filter has a head 1 which incorporates a jointing surface for a filter casing 11, a flange 2 projecting at right angles to the jointing surface, a division plate 5 between inlet and outlet chambers 3, 4 in the free face of the flange 2, a port 8 communicating between the inlet chamber and a central boss 9 which makes sealing contact with the interior of a spring- loaded cylindrical filter element 12, and a port 10 communicating between the outer chamber and the space between the exterior of the filter element and the casing 11. Preferably the central boss 9 is formed with an annular spigot 14 having slots through which unfiltered liquid (e.g. oil) flows when the element is depressed, by excessive pressure differential, against a spring 25. Preferably the element is of star cross-section. To assemble the filter a chipped washer 24 having a seal 23 at its centre is threaded over the bolt 18, the casing 11 and spring 25 are threaded over, and then a washer 22 and a seal 21. Finally the element 12, having a coned disc 17 bonded to its lower end plate 16, is threaded over the bolt. The bolt is then screwed into the head 1. Specification 524,675 is referred to.
