Abstract

837,737. Hydraulically actuated pumps. BUTLER & CO. (BRISTOL) Ltd., W., and KERNON, D. R. Jan. 21, 1959 [Dec. 6, 1957], No. 38048/57. Class 102(1). A piston 18 reciprocating in a chamber 15 alternately supplies liquid to and withdraws it from chambers 5, 9 in which are mounted bellows 1, 2 which are thereby caused to draw liquid through valves 7, 11 and discharge it through valves 8, 12. The bellows may draw from a common inlet and discharge to a common outlet or separate inlets and outlets may be provided. The stroke of the bellows may be varied by means of a valve 27 which controls flow of liquid from one side of piston 18 to the other. The stroke of each bellows is indicated by members 33 sliding in translucent tubes 34. In a modification a spring loaded bellows forms one wall of a chamber connected to the chamber 9 and the stroke of this bellows is variably limited whereby the output of the bellows 2 is varied independently. The chamber 15 is provided with by-pass valves 43, 44 to prevent excessive hydraulic pressure in the bellows chambers. The piston 18 may be replaced by a diaphragm.
