Abstract
838,961. Amusement devices. MANSSON, G. E. April 3, 1958, No. 10800/58. Class 132(1) An amusement device comprises a rotor so constructed that it restrains riders thereon from being thrown off radially as it is rotated and so supported that the angle of its plane of rotation to the horizontal may be varied. The device is shown as part of a semi-trailer unit 12, Figs. 1 and 3, which is supported forwardly by struts 15a and carries at its rear end two spaced standards 19 bearing a shaft 63 to provide pivotal support for an L-shaped arm 17 the outer end of which carries the rotor. The arm 17 is also connected by pins 22 to piston rods 21a of hydraulic cylinders 21 which are pivoted to the trailer frame and to which fluid under pressure is fed from an electrically driven pump 24 through a line 23 under control of a valve 26 operated by a lever 26a to alter the angular position of the arm. The outer end of arm 17 carries a fixed spindle 32, Fig. 6, with upper and lower bearings 40, 41 supporting a rotor mast 27 and a flange 65 thereon carries a plurality of radial struts or spokes 29 which are spaced at their outer ends by a rim 30 and are reinforced by trussed brace members 31 secured to a flange 66 on mast 27. Floor sections 28, each carrying a guard rail 33, are removably mounted at the outer ends of the spokes 29 and mounted on the outer periphery of the sections 28 there is a fence made up of semicircular compartments 70 formed by curved rods 36 secured to uprights 38 covered by heavy screen material 35 and held by adjustable stay rods 52 attached to mast 27. Three compartments 70 are provided on each section 28 and each compartment has a waist strap. Friction wheels 44 keyed on driven shafts engage the rim 30 of the rotor to drive it, the whole of the driving mechanism being movable with the arm 17. The arm 17 normally rests on a plate 55 in an opening in the trainer frame 15, and when the rotor is dismantled the parts are stacked in the trailer.
