Abstract

842,064. Extruding tubes. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Sept. 19, 1958, No. 30064/58. Class 87(2). An apparatus for cooling setting and sizing extruded thermoplastic, e.g. polyethylene, tubes comprises a receptacle 1 having an inlet 6 and an outlet 7 and containing a cooling liquid, e.g. water, a sizing ring 9 below the level 14 of the liquid and over which the extruded tube 5 is passed, a guiding element 10 coaxial with and of lesser diameter than the sizing ring 9 and located in the outlet 7 of the receptacle 1 and a flexible sealing member 12 pressing against the guiding element 10 in such a manner to permit the cooled and set tube 5 to be drawn between it and the element 10 whilst effecting a liquidtight seal therebetween. The liquid level is adjustable, the receptacle is adjustable both axially and transversely and the sizing ring and guiding member are cooled.
