Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula : <FORM:0852974/IV(b)/1> in which n is 2, 3 or 4, R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms and R1 and R2 are alkoxy groups each having up to 3 carbon atoms and either R1 or R2, but not both, may be hydrogen ; and acid addition salts thereof ; and the preparation thereof by N-acylating a 1-o-(substituted thio)-phenylpiperazine with an appropriately substituted phenyl-alkanoic acid or reactive derivative thereof and reducing the product with a complex metal hydride, or by reacting a compound of the formula : <FORM:0852974/IV(b)/2> with a compound of the formula : <FORM:0852974/IV(b)/3> where X is halide, hydrogen sulphate or sulphonate ; and, if desired, converting the products into their acid-addition salts. The products have central nervous system depressant and hypotensive properties.
