Abstract
857,376. Moulding plastic insulation around electrical conductor joints. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 8, 1959, No. 34096/59. Class 87(2). A mould for applying insulating plastic material to the junction of two insulated electric conductors comprises three lower sections 22, 21, 23 joined together by dowel pins located in mating holes and having a longitudinal channel therein of semi-circular cross-section which is constant in the central section 21 and at the ends of sections 22, 23, but tapers towards the extremities of these sections over distance B-B. The jointed ends 1, 2 of lengths of conductor together with sheathed portions 3, 4 are fitted into the lower sections, corresponding upper sections are then positioned thereon by dowel pins to enclose the conductors and define an injection passage 10 through which polythene is injected. Sections 22, 23 carry cooling fins and are provided with pipes 16, 17, 18 through which water is passed to cause differential cooling of the mould.
