A dual-purpose electric immersion heater comprises two heating elements 2, 3 of different loadings and lengths associated respectively with separate thermostats 5, 6 and supported from a header 4 constituted by a flanged member 1 and a cover 8 enclosing the element terminals and a change over switch 7 wired sc that either one or other of the elements can be energised at will to determine the heating conditions within the tank to which the heater is applied.
