Abstract

875,453. Photographic developers. PHARMACIA A. B. June 26, 1959 [June 28, 1958], No. 21931/59. Class 98(2) A solution of pH 8-9 comprises an ascorbic acid developing agent together with a mere active developing agent and a buffer system of borax in combination with an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol having at least two adjacent hydroxyl groups in the cis position and capable of forming with the boric acid formed from the borax complex acids which are stronger than boric acid. In four examples potassium hydroxide is used to attain the required pH, the other developing agent is metol or 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone, and the alcohol is glycerol: sodium sulphite is present also. Use of hydroquinone, and other alcohols, is mentioned. The solution has chief application in negative development.
