Abstract
881,553. Bell-jar scrubbers. LEUNAWERKE W. ULBRICHT VEB. Aug. 4, 1959 [Aug. 22, 1958], No. 26563/59. Class 55 (2). A bell-jar scrubber comprising a tower having a plurality of scrubbing floors whereabove are situated a plurality of water-fed floors is characterized in that scrubbing liquid is fed to the uppermost scrubbing floor from below and that, on each scrubbing floor, feed and discharge pipes for scrubbing liquid are evenly distributed and spaced apart, and between each feed and adjacent discharge pipe are situated a plurality of dome-shaped belljars each comprising a smooth surfaced inert material and each being of substantially semicircular vertical cross-section and having a chimney and a slitted skirt below the dome. As shown in Fig. 4, each bell-jar 1a may consist of a ring-shaped hollow chamber 1 having a dome-shaped top 2 and central pin 3. Three stays 4 symmetrically positioned, may be provided to support the bell-jar on a chimney 14 of the bell-jar next below. Central pin 3 may have an extension to the lowermost portion 11 of which is screw-threaded so that a clamp 12 can be attached thereto thus enabling the belljar to be tightened up between floor 13 and chimney 14. An example describes a desulphurization process carried out in a bell-jar scrubber as described, the scrubbing liquid being aqueous potassium N-diethyl amino acetate.
