Abstract

The invention comprises 2-(21:41-dimethylphenyl) - 4 : 6 - dichloro - 1 : 3 : 5 - triazine and 2 : 4 - di(21 : 41 - dimethylphenyl) - 6 - chloro - 1 : 3 : 5 - triazine which are prepared by condensing cyanuric chloride with m-xylene in the presence of aluminium chloride preferably in the presence of an inert organic solvent. They are used in the preparation of vat dyestuffs (see Group IV(c)). Examples describe the preparation of the compounds. Specification 784,926 is referred to.ALSO:In examples: (1) 2 : 4-di(21 : 41-dimethylphenyl)-6-chloro-1 : 3 : 5-triazine is condensed with 1 : 4-diamino-2-(41-chlorobenzoyl), anthraquinine to yield a blue dye; (2) 2-(21 : 41-dimethylphenyl)-4 : 6-dichloro-1 : 3 : 5-triazine is condensed with 1: 4-diamino-2-(41-chlorobenzoyl)- anthraquinone or 1-amino-4-methoxyanthraquinone to yield blue and red dyes, respectively.
