Abstract
891,159. Reducing pressure fluctuations. HOLMES & CO. Ltd., W. C., and THOMPSON, R. J. S. March 19, 1958 [March 20, 1957], No. 9071/57. Class 99(2). Pressure fluctuations, in a compresser system of the type wherein gas is delivered into delivery pipe means in a series of discrete volumes, are reduced by causing in a region a pressure loss in the gas stream which is devoted wholly to increasing the gas velocity to a value not less than 200 ft./sec. which pressure loss is subsequently recovered downstream of the region. In an embodiment a series of tubes 14, Fig. 1, each containing a Venturi 15, are -mounted between end plates 11, 12, inserted in a duct, the entrance and exit of which 16, 17, may be conical. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, a number of rectangular Venturis may be mounted within a circular pipe or mounted together to form a rectangular nest. In further embodiments the Venturi may be formed within a tear-drop or conical shaped solid element, fixed or slidably mounted within a parallel, conical or Venturi shaped duct.
