Abstract
894,054. Generating combustion products under pressure. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Oct. 13, 1958 [Oct. 12, 1957], No. 32628/58. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XI] In a combustion chamber for the combustion of gaseous fuels of low calorific value in a gas-turbine installation, combustible gas and air are supplied to chambers arranged alternately and circumferentially, the gas and air issuing from the chambers in a peripheral direction and obliquely to the axis of the chamber, each gas and air chamber having a slit-like outlet, the outlets being combined in pairs and deflecting surfaces being mounted adjacent each pair of outlets so as to deflect the air and combustible gas streams in the desired direction. In the apparatus shown, a flame tube 6 having air inlet openings 5 is mounted within an outer casing 1 having an air inlet branch 10 at one side thereof. Combustible gas is supplied through an inlet 20 to an annular channel 19 surrounding alternately and circumferentially arranged combustible gas and air chambers 11, 12, gas entering the chambers 11 through the open radially outer sides thereof. Air enters the chambers 12 through openings 18 in the upstream wall 15 from the space 17 on the upstream side of the chambers. The gas and air chambers are separated by means of wall members 16 and gas and air discharge from the chambers through slot-like openings 22 and 23 respectively, deflectors 24 being disposed adjacent each pair of openings 22, 23 so as to cause the air and gas mixture to flow in a peripheral direction obliquely to the chamber axis. The openings may be interrupted by short connecting pieces or they may be formed as a row of closely-spaced holes. Some of the combustible gas chambers may be closed by means of flaps or slides for regulation of combustion. An auxiliary combustion chamber 8 may be disposed upstream of the gas and air chambers 11, 12 so as to discharge centrally therethrough the chamber 8 comprising a perforated flame tube 27, a liquid fuel injector 25, swirl vanes 26 and a rotary valve 29 controlling the supply of primary air to the chamber. A three-way valve 30 is disposed in the combustible gas supply line whereby air may be supplied from the line 32 to the chambers 11 when liquid fuel only is being burned, the air from the chambers 11, 12 then constituting secondary air.
