Abstract

The invention comprises dialkylaminoalkyl esters of 18b -glycyrrhetinic acid, wherein the alkyl groups contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and acid addition and quaternary salts thereof, and the preparation of the esters by reacting 18b -glycyrrhetinic acid with a dialkylaminoalkyl halide and subjecting the resulting haloalkyldialkyl-ammonium salt of glycyrrhetinic acid to the Horenstein-Pahlicke rearrangement (Berichte 71. 1644 (1938)), suitably by heating in an alcoholic medium. Examples describe the preparation of the dimethylaminoethyl, diethylaminoethyl and bromocholine esters of 18b -glycrrhetinic acid. Specification 843,133 is referred to.
