Abstract

900,450. Gas filters. PUROLATOR PRODUCTS Inc. April 26, 1960, No. 14598/60. Class 8(2). The first stage of a two-stage filter cartridge 10 comprises an element 15 of material e.g. nylon, polystyrene, polypropylene capable of developing an electrostatic charge whereby the finest dust particles are arrested in preference to the coarsest particles which are held by the second stage element 16 of filter paper and on which is formed a porous filter cake of relatively coarse particles offering substantially no back pressure to the gas flow. As shown elements 15, 16 comprise a thick sleeve of batted nylon and a thin sleeve of pleated resin impregnated paper respectively supported by inner and outer concentric screens 13, 14 and upper and lower plastic annular end discs 11, 12. The filter elements 15, 16 may be switched to allow of outward flow.
