Abstract

910,729. Fluid heaters. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Sept. 4, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 31685/61. Class 64 (1). In a fluid heater comprising an outer shell 10 surrounding an inner heating tube 20 which is provided with radiallyextending longitudinal fins 21, the diameter of the end portion 37 of the outer shell is increased around a finned end of the inner tube at which heating medium is introduced to form an outlet zone 25 for the fluid to be heated. The fins 21 extend in close proximity to the outer shell 10 except in the said zone 25 and in the inlet zone 26 for the fluid to be heated where the fins are omitted. A fluid fuel burner 30 supplies combustion gases to the inner tube and the outer shell is mounted on roller supports 15, 16 and 17 and has an expansion joint 13. The heater may be used in concurrent flow using zone 25 as the inlet and zone 26 as the outlet for fluid to be heated, the burner remaining at the finned end of the tube. Further, the inlet zone 26 may be formed in the same way as zone 25 and the fins retained at the inlet end.
