Abstract

913,631. Musical drums. SELCOL PRODUCTS Ltd. Feb. 18, 1959 [Feb. 18, 1958], No. 5196/58. Class 88 (2). The side walls of a drum are constructed by injection moulding in a plastics material to form two cylinders 1 and 2 with inturned and acutely-angled flanges 3 and 4 at one end and with correspondingly positioned notches such as 5 and 6 at their unflanged ends so that when the unflanged ends are butted and secured together mounting members may be secured in the resulting apertures. In the rectangular apertures formed with notches 5 and 6 a plug 12 may be secured to provide a mounting for a casting 8 which has slots for the accommodation of nuts 15 and tensioning screws 11. Alternatively, a threaded sleeve may be embedded in the plug 12 and engaged by the tensioning screws from both ends. The plug 12 may be integral with the casting 8 and be secured to the side wall by clamping it between the halves 1 and 2 when these are joined together; this method also being used to mount members of a snare mechanism in apertures 7 on opposite sides of the drum wall. One member of the snare mechanism is fixed while the other has a cam-riding tension lever (see Figs. 1 to 5, not shown). The drum skin, which is of synthetic material, is tucked into the angle of a flanged hoop 24 by a metal ring 26.
