Abstract
918,190. Making cellular glass. JENS VILLADSENS FABRIKER A.S. Jan. 26, 1961 [Jan. 30, 1960], No. 3121/61. Class 56. [Also in Group XII] Powdered glass is mixed with a substance which evolves a gas when heated, the mixture being carried through a furnace on a conveyer which is itself supported in the furnace on another conveyer of heavier construction. The furnace shown is heated by gas jets 2 and contains a conveyer 3 carried on rollers 4, 5 and consisting of channel-shaped links running on guides 8. The glass mixture is fed from a hopper 10 to the conveyer 6 supported on a guide 9 and carried through the furnace on the conveyer 3. The conveyer 6 is of metal mesh sprayed at 14 with a slurry of material which seals the apertures and subsequently assists separation of the glass. In another form, the belt 3 is itself of metal mesh, carried within the furnace on a series of rollers, and has a return path outside the furnace. The conveyer 6 may be of paper with a large content of inorganic matter, e.g. asbestos paper, supplied from a storage roll.
