Abstract

919,689. Rotary-scythe mowers. MILLAR, V. W. Dec. 19, 1961 [Jan. 9, 1961], No. 45445/61 Class 6(3). A rotary-scythe mower includes a pair of transversely-spaced rear-wheels 3, a pair of transversely-spaced intermediate wheels 11, and a single front castor-wheel 6, the intermediate wheels being so positioned that they contact the ground only when a hump is encountered, to prevent the blades digging into the ground. The blades are driven by a motor 2 which may be either internal-combustion or electric. The intermediate wheels are carried by fixed brackets 12 on the mower-casing 1, but the axles of the remaining wheels are carried by arms 7, 4, pivoted to the main frame and connected to a rocking lever 15, intermediately fulcrumed on a post 15a and adjustable to vary the height of the wheels by a threaded rod 19 and nut 21. A pivoted handle 23 is provided for pushing the machine.
