Abstract
941,421. Valves. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. June 29, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No. 22311/59. Heading F2V. A fluid-flow control valve comprises a closure member A having a metal body 1 partially encased in rubber 2 or other resilient material in order to form a closure surface for the member, clamping members 3, 4 and means 5, 6 for drawing these together being provided in order to press the resilient material against the metal body. The rubber 2 is held on the body 1 by the clamping member in the form of plates 3, 4 clamped together through a rod-and-sleeve arrangement 5, 6, the sleeve forming a guide and operating member for the closure member A; an operating piston 11 is secured on to the tube 6 and operates in a cylinder 12 supplied with a pressurized fluid. The tube 6 is sealed where it passes out of a wall 14 of the valve housing 9 by a sealing ring B comprising a rubber body 8 moulded to a metal inner ring 7, the outer edge of the composite ring being clamped between the wall 7 and the housing 9; the sealing ring B may be replaced by a diaphragm secured at its outer edge to the housing and at its inner edge to the tube 6. The closure member arrangement may be applied to a threeway valve, two closure assemblies then being separated by a spacer.
