Abstract
942,681. Controlling aircraft; ships etc.; marine appliances. P. D. BOLTON. Nov. 18, 1960, No. 39797/60. Headings B7A, B7G, B7M and B7W. The centre of gravity of a craft adapted to move through air or water is maintained between desired limits by moving, under the control of valve means, a mass of liquid through a conduit system, a reservoir located between the limits being connected to portions of the system beyond the limits. A reservoir 52, situated adjacent the normal C.G. position of an aircraft, is fitted with a plunger 56 for forcing a supply of mercury to either of two similar reservoirs situated in the nose and tail respectively, according to the setting of a valve 54. A further valve 58 provides for transfer direct between nose and tail reservoirs. An additional system with reservoirs located in the wing tips may be provided for lateral trimming. Application to such craft as hydroplanes is mentioned.
