Abstract
A self-extinguishing resinous composition comprises a syrup of polymethyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate and a cross-linking agent, e.g. ethylene dimethacrylate, a minor proportion of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, a vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer or a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, and a halogen-containing organic phosphorus compound, e.g. trichloroethyl and tris-dichloropropyl phosphates. Also present in the compositions may be benzoyl peroxide and ultra-violet absorbers, e.g. methyl salicylate, benzotriazole and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzophenone. Polymerization of the mixture may be carried out at elevated temperatures.
