Abstract

954,971. Endless conveyers. J. COLLIS & SONS Ltd. March 14, 1960 [Dec. 12, 1958], No. 40234/58. Heading B8A. Carriers 6 at spaced intervals on an endless conveyer chain 1 carry spaced fingers 14 (1 only visible in Fig. 5) adapted to be engaged by respective components 19 when one of the latter is selected by a push-button (not shown). The particular one of the group of components 19 (at the loading station) selected by the pushbutton, displaces a corresponding finger 14 depending on the desired unloading station. The displacement of the finger 14 also results in the opening of an hydraulically actuated shutter 10 at the loading station, followed by the turning of a slotted member 16 from the full line to the dotted line position. A ram 17 is then actuated to carry a load 13 from a horizontal, rollerconveyer to a position on the member 16 in which it is picked up by the rising carrier 6. As the chain passes over its upper sprocket the carrier is guided by the interaction of a pivot on the latter and the limbs of a forked member (not shown) carried by a carriage (not shown) which is movable freely on a horizontal slide. The carriage is returned by counterweights. As the carrier 6 descends (Fig. 7) fingers 18 at a selected unloading station are projected by a cylinder 17 activated as a result of the projection of the finger 14. The load is left on the fingers 18 which are then retracted and the load is discharged transversely to the direction of the fingers 18 as described in Specification 954,972. Stops may be provided to prevent articles being presented to an already loaded cradle. A warning may be provided in the case of a loaded carrier for which no discharge station has been selected. The conveyer is applicable to the distribution of passengers' luggage to the decks of a ship.
