Abstract

974,654. Ladders. MERCURY AIRFIELD EQUIPMENT Ltd. Jan. 20, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2346/60. Heading A6L. [Also in Division El] A working platform 1 is mounted on a stairway 13 adjustably pivoted to a frame 10 which is movable along a stairway 4 fixed on a wheeled carriage 2. The frame 10 is moved along the stairway 4 by an hydraulic cylinder 28 controlled by a lever 27 on a platform 12 on the frame 10 providing communication between the two stairways. The hydraulic cylinder operates through a rope 30 passing over pulleys 29, 32, 33 and connected at 34 to the frame 10. The platform 1 and the steps 22 of the stairway 13 are mounted on the frame 10 by parallel links 17, 18 so that the steps and platform are always horizontal at any inclination of the stairway produced by an hydraulic ram 36 controlled by valve 35 on the platform 1. A turntable may be mounted in the frame 10 or the carriage 2 so that the stairway 13 can be swung about a vertical axis.
