Abstract

981,210. Wick burners. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. March 4, 1963 [June 14, 1962], No. 8565/63. Heading F4T. A demountable wick stove comprises a fuel tank 11 having flaring walls, a lid 17 seated on the tank and supporting wicks 21, a chimney 35 seated on the lid and having oppositely sloping inner and outer walls 43 and 41 and a raised area 49 having arcuate openings for the wicks and a burner 70 having perforate sloping inner and outer wall elements 72 and 71 seated on the raised area 49. The wicks are either fabric mats or ceramic structures and are supported frictionally in the arcuate openings in the lid. Alternatively the wicks are ropes and a loop thereof projects through the arcuate openings in the lid. The tank 11 has a bead 15 over which a flange 31 of the lid 17 frictionally fits. The lid is provided with a filler opening 27 which is closed by the central part 29 of the chimney. Air flows through holes 55 in the chimney outer wall and then through holes 57 and 59 to the outside and inside of the burner. The chimney top 80 has depressions 81 to allow combustion gas to escape from under a cooking receptacle resting on top of the chimney. The burner is provided with combustion gas outlets 74. The openings 39 are positioned by rotation of the chimney to expose the wick partially or wholly. The chimney and the burner can be accommodated inside the tank for carrying. A plurality of chimneys, burners and fuel tanks can be nested in groups. U.S.A. Specification 2,800,174 is referred to.
