Abstract

985,459. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. Sept. 20, 1962 [Sept. 25, 1961], No. 35820/62. Heading H2E. A connector 1 with conductors 21 leading therefrom includes a hood assembly comprising two half-hood members forming an enclosure with an emit passageway, each half-hood member including at least a side wall 47 and two end walls 49, 51, spaced antipodal pivot supports 3, 5 mounted on connector 1, the halfhood members being pivoted to supports 3, 5 for movement toward and away from each other to close or open simultaneously the enclosure and passageway, and means carried on each half-load member to clamp the conductors in the passageway. As shown, this means comprises cable clamp portions 65 and screws 65, 67. Each support 3, 5 is secured to connector 1 by a pin 27, 29, and has two bosses 43, 45 which act as pivots for the half-hood members. Pins 27 (male) and 29 (female) mate with corresponding pins in a mating connector to ensure correct orientation of the connectors. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) each pivot support has only one pivot boss. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) pins 27, 29 are replaced by screwed pins for locking the two mating connectors together. Specification 906,606 is referred to.
