Abstract

995,235. Seats; furniture combinations. F. C. JENKINS. June 8, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20477/60. Headings A4J and A4H. [Also in Division A6] A nursing aid comprises a movable frame having a seat member 6 capable of adopting seating and non-seating positions and a supporting rail 5 for use by a patient, the frame being shaped so that the seat member in its non-seating position can be moved under the legs of a patient sitting on a bed with his legs overhanging the side of the bed, and that the patient can lean forward on to the supporting rail 5 and can remain so disposed during his transportation by the frame away from the bed and during subsequent movement of the seating member to its seating position. The movable frame has a base portion 1 mounted on castors 2. Two vertical posts 3 bridged by a cross-rail 4 are connected to the base portion 1 by nut and screw connections which allow height adjustment of the seat 6 which is hinged by hooks 7 to pivot about the rail 4. A hooked member 8 hinged to the base of the seat 6 may be engaged at the rear of rail 5 to secure the seat. A table top 13 may be fitted to the open end of a further post 10 by rotatable plug and socket connection. The seat member may be a toilet seat.
