Abstract
997,404. Electromagnetic relays. AMERICAN MACHINE FOUNDRY CO. Dec. 18, 1961, No. 45356/61. Heading H2B. A polarized relay has a flat base 10 (Fig. 1) to which a non-magnetic bracket 41 (Fig. 4) is welded at points 47 and 48. The bracket 41 has a central portion 43 and normal projections 45, 46 with holes 50 through which the poles of electromagnets 23, 24 extend. The enlarged end 51 of the portion 43 is welded in one of the notches 52 in a magnetic end plate 39 in which the other ends of electromagnet cores 34, 37 are press fitted. A permanent magnet 25 is mounted between the electromagnets and secured between the bracket 41 and a second bracket 42 by solder in openings 53, 57 in the brackets. The second bracket 42 is welded in the other notch 52 in the plate 39 and both brackets have projections 49, 55 for locating the permanent magnet 25 and ears 54, 61 for limiting an armature pivoted on a knife edge of the permanent magnet 25. The armature can be retained in both extreme positions by the permanent magnet or in only one selected position. The armature is arranged to operate contact spring sets as described in Specification 997,403. The cover 11 may be sealed in a groove 12 in the base 10.
