Abstract

A stratified structure for use as a dressing or for protection against the effects of menstrual periods comprises at least one first layer 1 of cellulose fibres, and a further layer 2 having a base of cellulose fibres the outer surface of which is rendered water- repellent. Preferably both the first and further layers are layers of cellulose fibres, e.g. carding cotton fibres or cellulose fibres derived from dry separated paper pulp. Preferably the first layer is covered with a veil 3 of thermoplastic fibres. The outer surface of the further layer is preferably rendered water-repellent by hot bonding thereof to a polyethylene sheet 4. The invention also provides a method of forming such structures.
