Abstract

Process for the recovery of heterogeneous waste plastics material comprises (a) triturating the plastics waste material; (b) then cold mixing the waste materials; (c) the mixed wastes are subjected to a first stage heating within a first range of temps., to obtain a mass in an initial state of plastification; and (d) subjecting this mass to a second heating stage within a second range of temps., generally different from the first range of temps., until there is obtained a homogeneous melted mass of recovered plastics material. Additionally the process may comprise (e) continuous mixing of the waste during the first heating stage; and (f) continuous mixing of the mass during the second heating stage. The first and second heating stages have no rapid pressure or temp. transitions. All materials are subject to uniform mechanical stresses. Apparatus is also claimed.
