また、所望の明るさが得られるので、輝度特性を改善させることができる。
図1はこの発明の実施の形態1が適用される液晶表示装置を示すブロック図である。図1において、前述(図10参照)と同様のものについては、前述と同一符号を付して、または符号の後に「A」を付して詳述を省略する。
以下、液晶表示装置1Aに固有の補正データが格納された表示制御回路10Aは、常に所望の輝度でフリッカのない画像を表示することができる。
また、調整ステップは、所定の制御信号により液晶表示パネル30を駆動するとともに、液晶表示パネル30の撮像信号をフィーバックしながら、コモン電極に印加するコモン電圧Vcomを調整するステップ(図9内のS2)と、各階調ごとの制御信号により表示制御回路10Aを駆動するとともに、液晶表示パネル30の撮像信号をフィードバックしながら、コモン電圧Vcomおよび交流駆動信号の振幅を調整するステップ(図9内のS3、S4)と、を含む。
また、基準電圧VRの調整機能を有する基準電圧生成回路12Aにおいて、液晶表示パネル30の表示画像の輝度を自動調整することができるので、輝度のばらつきを最小限に抑制して所望の明るさを得ることができる。
また、記憶装置11Aとしては、公知のルックアップテーブル(LUT)やROMなどの任意のメモリ手段が適用され得る。
なお、上記実施の形態1では、説明を簡略化するために、D/A変換器を用いて基準電圧VRを制御したが、必ずしもこの限りではなく、D/A変換器を用いずに正負極性の電圧を制御しても、同様の効果が得られる。たとえば、それぞれ独立に基準電圧VRを設置してもとく、または、電子回路を用いて基準電圧VRを生成してもよい。
さらに、記憶装置11Aの機能を実現するために、従来回路(図12参照)の抵抗R1〜R5を可変抵抗で構成してもよい。
Claims (2)
- 外部から入力される映像信号に基づく画像を表示する液晶表示パネルと、
記憶装置を有する基準電圧生成回路を含み、前記映像信号に基づきD/A変換された階調表示用の基準電圧を生成する表示制御回路と、
前記液晶表示パネルのコモン電極にコモン電圧を印加するとともに、前記基準電圧に基づく交流駆動信号を前記液晶表示パネルの各画素電極に印加して前記液晶表示パネルに前記画像を表示させるドライバ回路と、
を備えた液晶表示装置の基準電圧調整方法であって、
前記交流駆動信号のフィードバック調整時において、前記液晶表示パネルの実際の表示画像に基づき、前記表示画像の輝度が目標輝度と一致し、かつフリッカが最小となるように、前記基準電圧に対する補正データをあらかじめ前記記憶装置に格納する調整ステップを有し、
前記調整ステップは、
制御用パソコンからの所定の制御信号により前記液晶表示パネルを駆動するとともに、フリッカ測定部および輝度測定部を介して前記液晶表示パネルの撮像信号をフィーバックしながら、前記コモン電極に印加するコモン電圧を調整するステップと、
各階調ごとの制御信号により前記表示制御回路を駆動するとともに、前記液晶表示パネルの撮像信号をフィードバックしながら、前記コモン電圧および前記交流駆動信号の振幅を調整するステップと、を含み、
前記映像信号に基づく前記基準電圧は、前記基準電圧生成回路により、前記補正データを用いて補正された後に前記ドライバ回路に出力されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の基準電圧調整方法。 - 前記補正データは、前記交流駆動信号の正極電位および負極電位の両方に対する補正データを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置の基準電圧調整方法。
