Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title cloth capable of obtaining sufficiently air-permeable, oil-repellent hood insulator free from cloggings by impregnating a nonwoven fabric raw material with a specified amount of an oil-repellent. CONSTITUTION:A nonwoven fabric raw material 1 is folded and metered so as to be brought to a specified METSUKE level, and the resultant material is opened and laminated followed by application of needle punch processing while being extended, thus processing into a continuous lamellar form. Thence, said lamellar product is continuously delivered into a dipping tank 4 filled with a binder and an oil-repellent 3 selected from silicone- and fluorine-based ones, and passed through a pair of rollers 5 to remove excess binder and oil- repellent followed by volatilizing 6 the solvent component and then winding on a roll 7, thus obtaining the objective stamping cloth impregnated with 1-3wt.% of the oil-repellent. The insulators produced from this cloth will not cause deterioration of their performances due to impregnation of gasoline, can retain the initial performances, and, furthermore, is free from blur of the appearance because of attaching no oily impurities.

As shown in Figure 1, a stamping cloth that had been continuously needle-punched was immersed in a liquid bath containing a 2% oil repellent, squeezed, and dried in a drying oven. A stamping cloth original fabric having an amount of 2% by weight was obtained.

When we compared a vehicle equipped with this hood insulator with a vehicle equipped with a hood insulator that had not been treated with oil repellent, we found that after driving several times, the appearance of the insulator itself had become noticeably dirty compared to the untreated one. On the other hand, the treated ones retained their initial stain-free condition.

In addition, the sound absorption performance of treated and untreated insulators at the initial stage of installation, and the same mileage (mileage 100,000 km ITI)
When the sound absorption performance of the insulators was compared after driving on the road, the results shown in the graph of Figure 4 below were obtained.

As is clear from these results, the initial sound absorption properties are slightly higher in the untreated case, but after the treatment, the sound absorption properties drop rapidly.

On the other hand, it is suggested that the present invention maintains sound absorption performance substantially equivalent to the initial sound absorption performance even after traveling 100,000 km, and is sufficiently effective.
