Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the visible images which are free from ground fogs, are superior in image sharpness and have high gradation characteristic by applying the low frequency alternating voltage of frequency 1.5kHz or less between the back electrode of an electrostatic latent image holding body and developer carrier in the developing method of using the one-component developer.
CONSTITUTION: In this developing method, a non-magnetic sleeve 13 which carries a magnetic developer layer and encloses a magnet roll 17 and an electrostatic latent image holding drum 11 opposes to each other by maintaining the specified gap by a gap maintaining means 21. At the developing, the alternating voltage of frequency (f) 1.5kHz or less and amplitude (Vp-p) 2.5kV or less is applied between the back electrode 12 of the drum 11 and the sleeve 13 by a variable alternating voltage power source 15. By performing the development through application of the alternating voltage, according to kinds of images, and more preferably, of the frequency f and amplitude Vp-p selected by formula I, the sensible images of high gradation characteristic and sharp image end parts are obtained. These alternating voltage conditions are selected by pushing any of the select buttons A, B, C of a selective switching means 20.
