Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to retrieve a recording position by giving a movable tape guide three stop positions and then by providing a whole-width erasing head with a function of recording and reproducing a recording position discrimination signal.
CONSTITUTION: The figure shows a tape run passage in rewind and fast forward mode. In recording and playback mode, movable tape guides 2b and 2c are positioned as shown by upper dotted lines, and movable tape guides 2c' and 2b' by dotted lines for recording and reproduction. At this time, a recording position discrimination signal is recorded by whole-width erasing head 5 on a magnetic tape as wide as its whole width. In rewind mode, guides 2b and 2c are at intermediate positions as shown in the figure. Here, tape 3 never comes in contact with heads 9 and 10, and whole-width erasing head 5 detects the recording position discrimination signal and records a new discrimination signal. To unload the cassette, the tape is tensed between rollers 16 and 17 without using guides 2a and 2b, and 2a' and 2b' to place the tape in an unloading state.
