Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an ω-hydroxy coenzyme Q1 derivative useful as an intermediate for coenzymes Q industrially advantageously, by reacting a Grignard compound corresponding to the desired compound with 1,2-epoxy-2-methyl-3-butene.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by the formula I (X is halogen; Z is protecting group) is reacted with 1,2-epoxy-2-methyl-3-butene shown by the formula II under usual Grignard reaction conditions, to give an ω-hydroxy coenzyme Q1 derivative shown by the formula III useful as an intermediate for coenzymes Q having activities in organisms, especially coenzyme Q10. The compound shown by the formula I is obtained by treating a compound shown by the formula IV by a common Grignard reagent preparation, and the resulting compound is used directly as the raw material without isolating is from the reaction solution. The compound shown by the formula II can be synthesized from isoprene by a well-known method.
