Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a sound casting with a good casting yield by installing a float composed of a refractory material of specific gravity smaller than that of the molten metal to be poured and having a hollow part in the longitudinal direction into the mold space and pouring the molten metal through the hollow part of this float.
CONSTITUTION: A float 5 comprising a refractory material of specific gravity smaller than that of pouring metal and having mechanical strength and heat resistance and having a hollow part 6 is installed in the mold. Thence, when pouring of molten metal is performed through the hollow part 6 of the float 5, the molten metal poured passes through the gaps or resembling places and spreads in the mold sapce 9. As the molten metal level ascends, the float 5 also ascends. With this constitution, the molten metal of high temperature is successively replenished always to the surface layer part of the molten metal level in the mold; therefore, the ideal temperature gradient is formed from the bottom of the mold inside toward upward.
