Luggage carrier for a bicycle handlebar

The invention relates to a luggage carrier for on the handlebars of a bicycle and consists of a frame which is mounted on the handlebars in such a way that the major part protrudes forward above the front wheel, while the rear part is supported on the handlebar 5 above the steering head and because the frame is provided with two guide profiles, the frame can be mounted and adjusted to any available steering form.

On the bike, taking a large piece of luggage, such as a large, long sports bag, is often a problem. In many cases, the full bag on the handlebar is placed in a provisional balance, although most current handlebars actually no longer allow it in a safe manner. Because the bag can sink forward or slip, unsafe situations can arise in traffic. Holding with one hand is also possible, but then braking and indicating direction is another problem. Taking a bunch of flowers with you also poses a safety hazard. And if a normal (rear) luggage carrier is already present, it is usually too short.

U.S. Pat. No. 3,948,424 discloses a support structure which protrudes at the front of the handlebar and is supported on the front fork, while the support structure is bent upwards at the front and rear and does not protrude backwards beyond the handlebar. The cables also don't seem to have been considered

In order to promote road safety and prevent the transport problems of a large piece of luggage, the rectangular frame of the bicycle handlebar luggage carrier according to the invention is preferably provided with guide rails 25 on either side along the inside of the long sides and also has a fixedly mounted in the rear part horizontal bridge section.

It is also preferred that a horizontal bridge part with fixing means is mounted on the horizontal part of the bicycle handlebar, wherein the rectangular frame with the guide rails is preferably slidable along the horizontal bridge part fixedly mounted on the bicycle handlebar. The fixed horizontal bridge part is preferably fixed with the aid of fastening means to the vertically directed handlebar of the bicycle handlebar.

The luggage carrier is also preferably mounted horizontally on the handlebar with the aid of the first horizontal bridge part and the second fixed, horizontal bridge part with the respective fastening means. The guide rails of the luggage carrier are also preferably provided with a series of holes.

The bicycle handlebar luggage carrier 1 according to the invention consists of a rectangular frame 2, wherein along the inside of the two long sides a guide rails 3 is provided, along which a first horizontal bridge part 4 can be slid. On the rear side of the frame 2, as shown in figure 1, a second horizontal bridge part 5 is attached, which is fixed to the control rod 9 with the aid of conventional fixing means 6, such as for example threaded ends and a bracket. The first horizontal bridge part 4 is fixed to the horizontal part of the handlebar 8 with simple, also available fastening means 7. This is shown in figure 2. Because the first horizontal bridge part 4 is slidable along the guide rails 3 in the frame 2, the bicycle handlebar luggage carrier 1 can be mounted on all known handlebar embodiments and can be adjusted horizontally with the second horizontal bridge part 5 with the fixing means 6.

Halfway the rectangular frame 2 a transverse connection 10 is provided, through which two large openings 11 and 12 are created, so that it is also possible to carry a bunch of flowers on the bicycle in a safe manner.

In order to properly hold the luggage on the handlebar luggage carrier 1, the guide strips 3 are both provided with a series of holes 13, to which a quick strap can be hooked.

Another advantage of the present handlebar luggage carrier 1 is that the cyclist / star always has the luggage 30 in sight and therefore no longer has to turn around to check whether the luggage is still properly secured.

Claims (6)

A luggage carrier for on the handlebars of a bicycle, consisting of a rectangular frame, characterized in that the rectangular frame (2) of the luggage carrier (1) is provided on both sides along the inside of the long sides with guide rails (3) and also in the rear part 5 comprises a permanently mounted horizontal lying bridge part (5).
