Description
tinned fitme ANDREW J, FLETOHERtOF RED BLUFF, CALIFORNIA.
Letters Patent No. 101,722, dated April 12, 1870.
- IMPROVEMENT IN HAIR MEDICINE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
' ammonia, 2 ounces; spirits of rosemary, 8 ounces; distilled water,.4 ounces; extract of manzanita, 1 ounce; or, if this cannot be obtained readily, I substitute some quassia chips, about half an ounce, to be well soaked in distilled water, and the extract to be put in with the compound.
I mix the above ingredients well together, and zip-- ply them to the headiu the usual form of a lotion.
- Aiter it is well rubbed on, the head should be brushed with a soft hair-brush.
This compound will prove an infallible remedy where the hair is coming out through sickness or any other cause, and will restore hair where the applicant is bald; it also cures tetter and other diseases of the scalp.
I am aware that some of these ingredients have been before usedfor the purposes named, but from experiments made, and from a long residence on the Pacific coast and in Mexico, I have found that these ingredients, when combined with the manzanita extract-a shrub indigenous to Mexico and the Pacific coast has a most wonderful and curative eii'ect. When, however, this cannot be obtained, I use a few chips or gratings of the quassia tree, which I find, in combination with the other ingredients, produces the same beneficial results.
Having thus fully described the nature of my improved medicalcompound, and the method of applyiug the same,
What I claim as new, and as my invention, and de sire to seizure by Letters Patent, is.
The medical compound as described, for the uses and purposes set forth.
A. J. FLETCHER.
