MINOR P. BOYD, or UNINVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA.
Letters' Patent No. 106,460, dated August I6, '1870.
IMPROVED DINING-TABLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
lo all who-m it may concern v Be it known that I, MINlon-P. Born, of Union? i ville, in the county of-Union and in the State of South Carolina, have invented certain p new and useful Im-A provements' in Dining-Tables; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accom? panying drawing and to tlieletters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.A i
'.lhe nature of my invention consists iu the construction and arrangement of a dining-table, with a'track and movable revolving dishstand, fasV will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art t-o which "my invention appertains to make and use the same,
I will now proceed ,to describe its construction andV operation, referring tov the annexed drawing, in which- I f Figure 1 isa side elevation of the table, with the dish-stand, complete;
Figure 2 isa bottom view of a box` with balls inserted in the under side of the'dishfstand; 4
Figure 3 is a plan view of the table; and
stand.
A represents an` extension table, made in any of the know-n and usual ways, on top of which the tablecloth is supposed to be spread. 1
On top ot' the cloth are then laid three rails,`B B, as shownin iig. 3 These rails are all made in sections, corresponding in length with the width of the leaves ofthe table, and the sections for the end pieces of the table are of such length as to leave sufficient room atihe ends for the persons seated at the same.
The sections of the. rails for each end piece and for each leaf are secured to a bar, O, running diagonally, and which bar is secured to the table hy means of a screwat each end, said screws passing through eyeletholes worked in the table-cloth for that purpose.
On the rails B B is placed the carriage D, provided, on its under side, with four small wheels or rollers, a a, two of which lun on the center rail, and one on each of the side rails.
From the center of thel carriage D a'tube, b, prov jects upward for a suitable distance, and said tube passes through the center of a disk, F.
In theunder side of the disk E is inserted a circular box, (l, around'the center hole through which the tube b passes, and in vsaid box is a circular groove,
Figure 4 is a bottoni view of the carriage and'dish-v corresponding with a similar groove in the top of the carriage D. g
In these grooves is placed a number of small balls, t' i, uponwhich the disk E thus rests, and can easily be revolved. l
Ou `the tube b above the disk E is placed aiianged i collar, c, which holds the disk down in its place, but does not prevent it from revolving around its center'.
The dishes containing the'various-art-icles of food are placed on the disk E, and can readily be moved on the carriage from one end of the table to Vthe other, and the disk revolved so as to bring the desired dish near the person wanting the same.
If there should not be room enough on the disk E for all t-he dishes, a shaft, f, is placedin the upper end lof the tube b, and ou said shaft, at a suitable height above thedisk E, is secured a flanged collar, h., with a grooved box, d, on ltop.
.This box is similar to the one of same letter above described, and providedwith balls t' t'.
On top of this isv placed another, smaller disk, G, with A-a circular groove in its under side fol the balls t' t' to work in,4 the shaftfpassing up through the center of` said disk. i
On the upper end of the shaftf is placed another flanged collar, e, to hold the disk G down in its place,
but, at the same time, allow it to revolve around the shaft independent of the first disk E. l
In the same manner any number of disks may be.
arranged one above the other, and each revolvingindependently of the others.
Having thus fully described my invention, \Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a table, the p detachable groovedv track B and the carriage D,'provided with rollers or wheels a a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of. the sectional track B car riage D, aud'a series ofindepelnleutly-revolving disks, E G, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and desoribedand for the purposes her/ set In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my'hand this 2d day of August., 1870.
