Be itv known that I, PHILIP NURSE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhat- |tan, in thev county and State of New York,

have invented a new and'Improved Horseshoe Calk and Carrier, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention has for its object to provide a calk, having a curved plate with teeth adapted to be disposed against the inner side of a horse shoe, this curved plate having slots in which are disposed angular mem bers, which extend upward at the outer sides of the horse shoe, and are provided withv openings at their upper terminals, through which may be disposed a strap for securing the calks in position. This curved plate with the teeth may be provided withinwardly disposed flanges, to which may besecured a pad.

Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specication, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed. Y

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a curved rib or plate 5 is provided, which is normally disposed against the inner side 6 of the horse shoe 7, this curved rib or` plate 5 merely having sufficient thickness to permit of the construction of the teeth 8 at its sides, the cent-ral portion of the toe 9 of the curved rib being 'sharpened as shown in the drawings. This curved rib 5 has horizontal slots 10, one at each side, there being lalso a horizontal slot 11 in the toe or central portion 9 of the curved rib 5. In Vthe slots 10 there are disposed portions 12, of the angular members 13, the portions 12 at the inner side'of the curved rib 5 having depending flanges 14. These'angular members 13 also have transverse teeth 13a. Through the horizontal opening 11 there is disposed a portion 15 of the angular member 16, this portion 15 of said angular member 16 having a depending flange 17 disposed at the inner side of the curved rib 5.

TheV portions 12 of the angular members 13 extend outwardly under the horse shoe 7, and then upwardly at 19, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the upper portions 20 of the angular members 13 having obliquely disposed slots 21. The portion 15 of the angular member 16 extends'outward from the toe 9 of the curved rib 5, under the toe of the horse shoe. This angular member 16 has a portion 22, extending inward at the front of the horse shoe 7 andthen rearwardly at 23, where it has a loop 24. A strap 25 is disposed through this loop 24, and then outwardly through the slots 21, the

portion 26 of the strap 25 being disposed against the hoof 27 of the horse, the calk being secured to the horses hoof in this manner. From the loop 241 the angular member 16 extends downward at 16a forming the tooth 16b at the front of the curved band 5. This form of the invention may be used with a pad 5a as shown.

In the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings the curved rib 5 has an inwardly disposed flange 28, extending rearwardly from its toe 9, and flanges 29 and 30 extending inwardly from its sides. A pad member 31 is disposed between the iianges 2S, 29 and 30 of the horses hoof, this pad member 31 having a central opening 32. There is also a second pad member 33, which is secured at the bottom of the flanges 28, 29 and 30. The pad members 31 and 33 are secured to the ` flanges 28, 29 and 30 by the bolts 34:.

In addition pad members 35 are disposed at the rear of the pad member 33, and between the rear terminals 36 of the curved rib, these pad members 35 being secured to the pad members 31 and 33 by means of the rivets 37. In other respects the form of invention shown in Figs. 2 and tof the drawings conforms with the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a horse shoe calk and carrier, a curved plate withr teeth for engaging the ground, and adapted to be disposed at the inner side of a horse shoe, there being openings in the plate, angular members disposed in the openings and normally extending upward at the outer side of the horse shoe, there being openings in the upper ends of the angular members, and a strap disposed in the second-mentioned openings for the purpose specified.

2. In a horse shoe calli and carrier, a curved rib adapted to be disposed in the innerV side of the horse shoe, there being openings in the rib, angular members disposed in the openings and normally extending upward at the outer side ofthe horse shoe and vertically at the inner side of the curved rib, there being openings in the upper ends of the angular members, and a strap disposed in the secondi-mentioned openings for the purpose specified.

3. In a horse shoe calli and carrier, a curved rib adapted to be disposed against the inner side of a horse shoe, there being openings in the our-ved rib, angular members having portion-s extending through the openings in the curved rib, the said portions of the angular members having depending flanges at the inner sides of the curved rib, the angular members having upwardly extending terminals normally disposed at the outer side of a horse shoe, and means for engaging the terminals for t-he purpose specified.

4. In a horse shoe calli and carrier, a curved rib adapted to be disposed against the inner side of a horse shoe having teeth for enga-ging the ground, there being openings in the curved rib, angular members having portions extending through the openings in the Curved rib, and vertically in the inner side of the curved rib, the angular members having upwardly extending terminals normally disposed at the outer side of the horse shoe, and means for engaging the terminals for the purpose specified.

5. In a horse shoe call( and carrier, a curved rib adapted to be disposed against the inner side of the horse shoe, there being openings in the Curved rib, angular members having portions extending through the openings in the curved rib, the said portions of the angular members having depending flanges at the inner sides of' the curved rib, the angular members having upwardly extending terminals normally disposed at the outer side of the horse shoe, there being openings in the terminals, and a strap disposed in the openings for the purpose specified.

6. In a horse shoe calli and' carrier, a curved rib adapted to be disposed against the inner side of a horse shoe, there being openings in the curved rib, angular members having portions extending through the openings in the curved rib, the angular members having upwardly extending terminals normally disposed at the outer side of the horse shoe, means for engaging the terminals for the purpose specified, flanges extending inwardly from the curved rib, and a pad secured to the flanges.

7. In a horse shoe ealk and carrier, a call; normally disposed at the bottom of a horses hoof, three members connected with the ealk and extending upwardly one at the front and one at each side of the hoof, there being loops in the upper terminals of the said members and a strap normally disposed through the loops inthe three members and then across the hoofl of the horse shoe, from the member at one side of the horseshoof to the member at the other side of the herses hoof.

8. In ahorse shoe ealk and Carrier, a curved plate with teeth and adapted'tobe disposed at the inner side of a horse shoe, there being openings in the front and sides of the plate, angular members disposed in the openings at the sides of the plate and adapted to extend vupwardlyv at the outersides of the horse shoe, an angular member disposed through the opening at the front of the plate and normally extending upwardly a-t the front of the horse shoe the last mentioned angular member being bent over to formv aloopV and extending down again with its terminal bent to vform a tooth, there being openings in the angular members at the side of the plate anda strap disposed through the loopv and the last mentioned openings. 9. In aV horse shoe ealk and carrier, a curved plate with teeth and adapted to be disposed at theY inne-r side of a horse shoe, there being openings in the front and sides of `the plate, angular members disposed in the openings atthe sides of the plate and adapted to extend upwardly at the outer sides of the horse sh-oe, anangular member disposed through the opening at the frontof the plate and normally extending upwardly at the front of the horse shoe the last mentioned angular member being bent over to form a loop and-extending down aga-in with its terminal bent to ferma tooth, there being openings in the angular inem-bers at the sides of the plate, a strap disposed through loop and the last mentioned openings, and teeth on the first mentioned angular members.
