FLEXIBLE OCCLUISIVE PESSARY.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ARTHUR AsoI-I, Med. Dr., a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of No. 54 Billhorner Rohrenda-mm, Hamburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Flexible Occlusive Pessaries, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to an occlusive pessary for women, which is not introduced into the mouth of the womb, but is clamped around the neck of the womb and may be worn permanently without causing inconvenience.

According to the invention the occlusive pessary consists in a double tube of soft rubber or the like, which embraces the mouth of the womb, while in the acket formed by the tube a flexible stiflening frame is provided. The pessary rests with its upper edge against the vagina. At its lower end it is provided with a valve cap, the ducts of which are closed by a double acting valve either from the outside or from the inside.

The drawings show-by way of example such a pessary embodying the invention on an enlarged scale.

Figure 1 is a vertical section and Fig. 2 a plan of the complete pessary, while Fig. 3 shows the stiffening frame in vertical section and Fig. 4 the same in plan.

The stiflening frame, composed of steel wire, consists in a large ring on and a smaller ring a, which are connected by stays 79. Both, the rings m, a, as well as the stays p are totally or partially formed by helical springs, so the whole frame, which has the shape of a truncated cone, is flexible in every direction. In the constructional example shown in the drawings, the stays p are formed in their upper parts, to about one fourth part of their length, of solid wire, while their lower parts extending down to the lower ring a are constructed as helical wire springs, so that the frame at its upper end oifers suflicient rigidity to the hand, which introduces the pessary into the womb pipe.

Radial arms or supports 9, directed inwardly, are arranged on the stays p and carry pressure plates or pads it. These radial supports 9 also are preferably made in the form of helical springs. The inner end of tube a is securely clamped on valvecap Z) by means of the ring a of the stiflening frame, while the outer end of tube a is secured on the valve-cap b, by means of special wire-binding. This latter end of tube a is hereby drawn over the ring a of the stiffening frame, so that the latter is completely inclosed within the double tube. For this purpose the valve-cap b is exteriorly provided with two flanges between which the ends of the tube and ring a of the stiffening frame, embrace the valve-cap b. This cap is centrally aperturedfor the accommodation of the stem of a duplex puppet valve (Z, which passes loosely through the aperture and carries a disk at each end, one of said disks being located on the outer side of the valve cap, while the other disk is located on the inner side of said cap.

The double acting valve (Z closes by means of its two disks, either from the inside or from the outside, according to its position, the ducts 0 in the valve-cap I) while in its middle position it allows easy access to douches and injections, so that the pessary need not be removed for the purposes of such operations.

The valve (Z as well as the valve-cap Z2 may be produced of metal or other suitable material. If metal be employed it is advisable that the valve and valve-cap, as well as the wire frame should be nickel plated or otherwise protected from corrosion.

What I. claim is 1. A pessary comprising a flexible tubular casing adapted to embrace the mouth of the womb and rest with its upper end against the vagina, a flexible stiffening frame within the casing, an apertured cap provided with a port and arranged on the lower side of the frame, and a duplex puppet valve having a stem that passes loosely through the apertured cap and carries a disk at each end, one of said disks being located on the outer side of the valve cap, while the other disk is located on the inner side of said cap.
